Freedom to speak up is about speaking up about anything that gets in the way staff doing their job and providing good care.  Speaking up protects patient safety.

The terms ‘whistleblowing’ and ‘speaking up’ are often used interchangeably. They can cover raising matters about a wide range of legal and ethical issues.

Staff are also encouraged to speak up even when things are going well in the service but could be made even better.

This policy assists you to foster a culture in which staff should feel confident that their voice will be listened to, and action taken.
